5 Simple Steps To Setting Intentions
An intention is set when you want to something to come true—you dream it—you are manifesting your intention into being. Essentially, an intention is your creative way of putting something out to the universe, higher power or god (whatever it is you believe in) to come true.
You can set your intentions by meditating or writing. The best way is to be in the present while you picture yourself already having achieved your intentions. I believe setting your intentions means that you know in your heart of hearts that you are worthy of the desired outcome. Aligning your intentions with your happier, healthier goals is the best way to align your head and your heart—this means you are wanting these outcomes for yourself first and foremost.
There are many different people and ways that will tell you how to set intentions. I find the following five ways simple and achievable.
5 Simple Steps to setting intentions
Know yourself.
When you know yourself, you know who you are inside and out. At your core, in still moments whether it is meditating or a moving meditation like writing or yoga—where your mind settles is the perfect time to plant your intention to let it grow.
Be Specific.
The more specific you are with your intention setting, the more it is likely to come true. Spend some time writing out the details of your intention. If you are wanting to love yourself more write out positive things about yourself so you know you are worthy of love. If you want a happier, healthier lifestyle write out in detail what an average day would be like being that you. What would you do, eat, taste, feel though out the day?
Let it go.
Once you have planted your intention, it is time to let it grow. Your intention will grow when in that perfect moment that you set it, you also set it free. Let it go, don’t be too attached to it—to let it go you must be present and mindful when setting it and then let it go and stop thinking of it.
Don’t get hung up on the outcome.
Attachment is based on uncertainty and sometimes even fear. If you are living in a conscious certainty and know and trust yourself without getting hung up on the beliefs of others, trust your intention setting.
Let it happen.
Trust your intentions. When present in mediation or moving mediation be present in picturing yourself as you have already lived your intention. When not, don’t dwell on it—let life happen and take on all opportunities that can help you get you one step closer.
