7 Self-Care Tips

Do you get bogged down in the day to day that sometimes you forget to look up and take a minute for yourself? I get it. Work is busy, you feel pressure from family, friends, your managers and co-workers because so much is going on. The world doesn’t stop because you are swamped. However, you haven’t stopped to smell the roses or celebrate the wins that you have made. You don’t even know what you would want to do if you had a minute to yourself because you are being pulled in all directions.

We are almost in April – 3 months into 2019 - are you achieving your weight loss, health and wellness goals? We are over 12 weeks into 2019. Yup, a 12-week challenge could have come and gone by now. Are you where you wanted to be as of 1 January 2019? If no, what is holding you back?

What’s really going on?

Are you holding yourself back because you are too busy and you don’t make time for yourself? Or if you do have time, do you waste it playing games on your phone (I’m guilty – candy crush has got a hold on me!), staring mindlessly at the TV at night or you sleep in and miss your workouts because you are too freakin tired?

If you did have some time, what would you do for you? Would you sit home, Netflix and chill, or go out and celebrate with your girls? Honestly, you should do what YOU feel you need to do so that you are taking care of yourself.

It may seem selfish to say that especially when you are already so busy, but it is vital to give YOU what YOU need. Not sure what you need? Here are 5 self-care tips that will help you have time for yourself as well as understand what it is you need.

Journal

Journaling is a great tool to get out of your head and understand yourself. You not only does journaling help you to understand yourself but understand your feelings and whatever is really going on.

Fresh Air

Get outside and breathe. Fresh air is grounding and great for your soul. Time outside to walk, run, put your feet in the sand or in the grass can help to calm down and give yourself time. Tim is what enables you to restore and recharge yourself.

YOU TIME

How much time do you need by yourself? This could be a daily, weekly or monthly period of time and it is different for everyone. Find out what works best for you to be able to do the things and stuff you need to do to feel recharged to take on the world and make sure you book it into your schedule.

Eat Well

I believe we are what we eat. Eating healthy foods that agree with you will help give you the energy and motivation to be productive in all areas of life. Make sure that you are fuelling yourself to fuel the lifestyle that sets your soul on fire.

Be Creative

Spark your creativity to give yourself some self-care. Creativity is important because the act of being creative helps reduces stress and heightens self-awareness and confidence.

Sleep

I believe sleep is overrated. Every time I talk to busy women, they always say they chose to sit in front of the TV at night and scroll instead of doing something productive (because they are too tired) or going to bed that little bit earlier to catch up on sleep.

Let’s stop this behaviour and put emphasis on quality sleep. We used to have a bedtime when we were little, bring it back! Even an extra half hour earlier could help you to have a much more productive tomorrow.

Be You

The best way to practice self-care or self-love is to be unapologetically you. Own your truths and who you are so you are living your beliefs. You are beautiful, capable and worthy of achieving all your dreams and goals.

Self-care is about taking care of you. It can be time getting a mani and pedi, but the real self-care is about taking the time to rest and recharge so when you are out doing the stuff and things that you need to do in this busy world, you are doing them to the best of your abilities.
