Let’s Talk Chocolate

To understand chocolate you can research it. You can figure out where it comes from and what is the difference between white, milk and dark chocolate. You can dive what pairs well with it and howmuch exercise you need to do to burn it off. Well, what a good question. I took a look and here is what I found.

A 200g milk chocolate Easter Egg that is around 1,050 calories can take a three-hour run to burn off the sugar content.

A hot cross bun with butter sits around 350 calories and can take at least 40 minutes of running to burn it off.

This is a lot of exercise. It is a shock to my system to do the research so I can’t image what you are thinking. Are you thinking about how much chocolate you bought so far? Or are you asking yourself how the heck are you going to make it through Easter. So how do you control your chocolate intake?

It’s all about being mindful. Be mindful that the holiday is coming and take some time to read the below 3 ways to sustain your healthy habits over Easter below.

Quality Control

Be mindful about what, when and how much you are eating – especially when it comes to chocolate. You can choose chocolate, try and grab dark chocolate that is good quality is at least 70% of dark cocoa or Cacao Nibs over milk chocolate for a healthier choice.

The benefits of dark chocolate are said to be the added antioxidants in it. The antioxidants have been shown to lower blood pressure. Cacao nibs are said to be a super food that can help boost energy and burn fat.

Unconventional Gift Giving

My Mom always used Easter as a time to top up mine and my sister’s socks and undies. Yes, our Easter Basket consisted of chocolate, socks and undies. Surprisingly, I miss this a lot nowadays. I’d love a top off on the socks and undies. What about you?

Anywho, back on topic. When putting together an Easter basket for family or friends, think about the person. Try and think outside the box with what that person would appreciate – maybe some organic, dairy free chocolate from a local health food store, fresh herbs or a house plant, an article of clothing, a craft to do over the long weekend or choose to go out and do an activity.

Plan, Predict and Prepare

Plan for success. Think about what it is that you want out of the long Easter weekend and how you want to feel come Tuesday and plan for it.

Predict what could possibly go wrong over the weekend to mess up your plan for success. You know yourself, you know what gets in your own way so predict these things happening and plan for a way around them.

Prepare for success by prepping snacks, meals and talking to those around you about what your plan is.

The holidays can put a hiccup in our healthy habits but they don’t have to.
